I’m that kind of player sometimes and I have to admit that I’ve ignored most optional objectives, but as a reviewer you generally run through a game a bit faster than during ‘casual sessions’. Furthermore, there are also optional objectives and then it just depends on whether you are such a player who likes to finish all objectives, without adding anything further. So you could say that Dirigo Games has put a lot of thought into the design of the game, focusing on the stimulation to keep playing the game.
KINGDOM OF THE DEAD GAME UPGRADE
Think of it as a little touch of rogue-like-esque tweaks, while the game itself already has a very light upgrade system. This gives each level and each difficulty a different experience, which improves the total playing time. Think of changes to the gameplay, such as stronger enemies, different weapons and other objectives. Secondly, Kingdom of the Dead lets you choose levels from a hub, where you can always indicate which difficulty level he would like to use, with different advantages and disadvantages. You notice that a lot of attention has been paid to the way in which the already scarce light reflects on everything, so that the darkness more or less comes to life. Incidentally, it all looks very nice in motion, which makes you curious about other locations in the game. But Kingdom of the Dead has to rely on fast actions in terms of gameplay and then the darkness gets in the way more than it gives an oppressive feeling.
No seriously, I understand that the darkness can contribute to a possibly oppressive feeling in games, as is sometimes the case in games like Resident Evil. Everything is quite dark and that’s why you sometimes don’t see a banana, although I must confess that there are also very few bananas in the game. That’s why with every new game from the genre it’s so interesting to see what the developer has done to keep gamers interested for longer.įirst of all, developer Dirigo Games has created a unique style, where everything looks hand-drawn, although the choice to choose this style also has a less good side. Let’s face it, without a sharply increasing difficulty, old school shooters quickly become monotonous and boring.
‘Nice and simple popping’ does not mean that the difficulty is easy, because real old school purists will say that FPS games ‘in the past’ were really difficult. Where in their heyday (90s) these shooters were seen as innovative and modern, they now guarantee a mix of nostalgic feelings and a zen-like effect on the brain. Today’s old school shooters offer the necessary variety in the popular FPS genre, keeping the genre as a whole captivating. Those kinds of games are always a welcome ‘refreshment’, but how long does Kingdom of the Dead really keep your attention? We’ll let you know in this review.
This FPS game combines a beautiful, artistic style with old school gameplay and will have you blown away. Pack your suitcase in advance it’s time for a trip to the ‘kingdom of the dead’, which sounds less beautiful in Dutch than ‘Kingdom of the Dead’.
